June 2019 Community Update

Roadworks

Road Rehabilitation
The reconstruction of the pavement with primer seal and drainage to Mann Street between Bent Street and Palmer Street is complete and awaiting a final ashpalt seal.  Council is working with the State Government and contractors to implement a sustainability project incorporating recycled plastic into the asphalt wearing course.  It is expected that this phase of the project will be completed in the near future.
 
Road Maintenance
The maintenance grading crew will be working on Clayholes, Sullivans, Valla, Kesbys, Southbank, Welshs Creek, Williams Hill and Bellingen Roads.
 
Landslip Repair
Work will commence on 15 October to stabilise a section of the embankment above Riverside Drive, east of Woodbell Street.  Soil nails and mesh will be installed over the face of the embankment.  Traffic will be detoured around the site via Woodbell Street.  The works are expected to take approximately 3 weeks.
 
Bridges
The replacement of Lanes Bridge, Rodeo Drive, Bowraville will continue and the approaches will be constructed.
 
 
 

Construction

Kerb and Gutter
Maintenance works will be undertaken on Valla cricket pitch and bus shelter.
 
 
 

Green Spaces

The Green Space Team have the following planned for January:

  • Upgrade 4WD access track at north Valla Beach
  • Mowing and brush-cutting reserves and street scapes as required
  • Weeding and mulching of street gardens/plantings
  • Planting new trees throughout street scapes and reserves
  • Bindii control in reserves
  • Weed control in roadsides and council managed reserves
  • Picnic table / shelter repairs, painting and replacement
  • Playground repairs and maintenance as required including soft fall top up
  • Rural roadside mowing
  • Pruning of street trees as required
