Nambucca Shire has many stunning beaches to explore and enjoy. A variety of services such as access ramps, life saving, caravan parks, boat ramps, barbecues, public amenity blocks etc are also available nearby.  

Life Saving Services

During the summer season, weekend life saving at Nambucca Heads and Scotts Head is provided by the respective Surf Life Saving Clubs.

Christmas School Holidays - Saturday 18 December 2021 to 26 January 2022 inclusive of Australia Day

During the Christmas School Holidays, Council has engaged Surf Life Saving Services Pty Ltd (trading as the Australian Lifeguard Service) to provide surf lifesaving services for the period commencing Saturday 18 December 2021 to 26 January 2022 inclusive of Australia Day.

Beach Permits for 4WD Access

Nambucca, Kempsey and Port Macquarie-Hastings local government areas share a common Beach Driving Permit allowing 4WD vehicles to access designated beaches.  Private and/or Amateur Fishermen, as well as Professional Fishermen need a Beach Driving Permit to access the beaches in the Nambucca Valley by 4WD. 

Under arrangement between the Nambucca Valley, Kempsey Shire and Port Macquarie-Hastings Council, applicants are required to obtain a beach access permit from the Council serving the area in which they reside. Permits are issued on an annual basis (valid from 1 July to 30 June) and a 2 week Tourist Permit is also available. It is a finable offence not to have a Beach Driving Permit which must be clearly displayed as required.  Permit holders must comply with the regulations detailed in the Vehicles on Beaches Brochure and all signage.

Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach) National Park - Little Tern breeding area

The NO VEHICLES beach signage near the Little Tern breeding area has been relocated 1km south of its original location in concurrence with Council, the Vehicular Access to Beaches Commitee, National Parks & Wildlife Service, and the Gaagal Wanggaan (South Beach ) National Park Board of Management.  The sign is now in place and temporary fencing will soon be installed from the sign down to the high tide mark to reinforce the seasonal closure (October to February) to improve protection for nesting shorebirds.  Enquiries to: National Parks & Wildlife Service Coffs Coast office on 6652 0900.

Visitor Information Centre 57 Riverside Drive, Nambucca Heads Effective 1 July 2021 the VIC is temporarily closed due to the stricter COVID-19 regulations

Vehicular Access To Beaches Committee

This Committee was established to review the provision of vehicular access and control measures on the public beaches in the Nambucca Valley.  At the time of the formation of the Committee, membership was sought from the public and now comprises a cross section of commercial and recreational users of the beaches along with interested persons in maintaining the natural environment.

Volunteer Honorary Beach Rangers

Our Volunteer Honorary Beach Rangers, on behalf of Nambucca Valley Council, provide a wonderful service to all beach users by enforcing Beach Permit conditions.  If you are a regular beach user and would like to become a Volunteer Honorary Beach Ranger, please complete an Application for Volunteer Work and forward it to Council for consideration.
