Nambucca Valley Council invites nominations for the 2023
National Celebration Day Awards.
 
Nambucca Valley Council has out of respect for its Indigenous citizens renamed its Australia Day Committee and Awards to National Celebration Day Committee and Awards where our celebrations reflect the diverse culture, society and landscape of the Nambucca Valley and are marked by community and family events, official community awards and citizenship ceremonies to welcome new members of the Australian community.
Nominations are now open for the 2023 Nambucca Valley National Celebration Day Awards. 
National Celebration Day is a great opportunity for the community to recognise and honour residents and sportspersons of all ages who have achieved success in their endeavours. 

If you know of a person, organisation or team that has made an outstanding contribution to the community over the past 12 months or cumulatively over many years, please nominate them for an Award under one or more of the  following categories:
 
  • Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Citizen of the Year award a person could be described as a role model in the community who has given selflessly of themselves to others.
  • Senior Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Senior Citizen of the Year award the person must be 65 years of age or over on 26 January and have made an outstanding contribution to their community.
  • Indigenous Citizen of the year: To be eligible for the Indigenous Citizen of the Year award a person could be described as a role model within the Indigenous community who has given selflessly of themselves to others.
  • Young Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Young Citizen of the Year award the person must be under 25 years of age on 26 January and have made an outstanding contribution to their community or school.
  • Young Indigenous Citizen of the Year: To be eligible for the Young Indigenous Citizen of the Year award the person must be under 25 years of age on 26 January and have made an outstanding contribution to their community or school.
  • Cultural Achievement Award: There is no age category for this award.  This is a special category for outstanding achievement in this field.
  • Environmental Award: To be eligible for this award the receipient must demonstrate signifigant volunteer contributions to preserve an enhance the environment within the Nambucca Valley.  
  • Senior Sports Person Award: To be eligible for this award, the person must be aged 18 years and over at the 26 January and achieved outstanding results throughout the year
  • Junior Sports Person Award: To be eligible for this award the person must be under 25 years and achieved outstanding results throughout the year.
  • Senior Sports Team Award: To be eligible for this Award the team should have achieved outstanding success and/or competed at State or National level or received consistent results at a regional or local level.
  • Junior Sports Team Award: To be eligible for this Award the team should have achieved outstanding success and/or competed at State or National level or received consistent results at a regional or local level.
  • Services to the Community: To be eligible for nomination the individual or organisation should have made a noteworthy contribution by either establishing or participating in an organisation or service of on-going benefit to the community. The contribution may be in any field considered appropriate by the Committee and should have been made over a number of years.
  • Good Neighbour Australia Day Awards: To be eligible for nomination the person should have made a noteworthy contribution by demonstrating a benevolent, caring, generous disposition and/or providing outstanding service to his or her neighbours or people in need

Nominations for the 2023 Nambucca Valley Council National Celebration Day Awards close on Friday 16 December 2022.
All nominations should be completed and submitted via the online Award nomination form below however paper copies can be picked up from Council’s Administration Centre and libraries.
Award recipients will be announced as part of Council’s National Celebration Day Official Program scheduled for Wednesday evening 25 January 2023. 
Please note: The Awards will rotate each year between Nambucca Heads, Bowraville and Macksville and in 2023 it will be Macksville's turn. The venue, date and time to be confirmed at a later time with consideration of the NSW Public Health restrictions in place at that time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 


 

National Celebration Day 2022
